PHOENIX - Following Trump's endorsement of Kari Lake, candidate for Governor Aaron Lieberman held a press conference calling Arizona and the state's elected leaders to action. In his remarks, Lieberman committed to certifying the election results of the 2024 election if serving as Governor:
"The last thing Arizona needs right now is Kari Lake --- she is a dangerous idealogue playing to a narrow base for her own partisan advantage. It’s no surprise Donald Trump just endorsed her. Kari Lake and Donald Trump have the same playbook: to divide us, one against another, demonize their opponents, and engage in winner take all, scorched earth politics.
"[...] Every elected official and every candidate for higher office is facing an important test --- you either need to disavow Donald Trump and Kari Lake and their lies about the last election, or you too will be complicit in damaging our democracy.
"But Kari Lake and Donald Trump are not just uncompromising in their politics, they are dangerous for our Democracy. Trump created the big lie by refusing to admit what even the Cyber Ninjas have now said is true: Trump lost, Biden won. Kari Lake, so focused on courting Trump to get his endorsement, worked tirelessly to spread the big lie as fast and as far as she could [...]
"Every single elected leader that loves Arizona should first and foremost seek to do no harm to the very thing that got them elected -- our democracy and the sacred promise that voters choose their leaders --- not the other way around.
"In that spirit, today I commit to you that as Governor of Arizona I will certify the Presidential election results for our state in 2024 regardless of which party is the winner if there is a free and fair election. And I urge my fellow candidates in both parties to make that same commitment for the good of our democracy."
